The werewolves tied our wrists with some kind of magical rope, connecting us together in a long line, and escorted us down the opposite side of the mountainâmost of them in their werewolf form, snapping their teeth at us each time we tripped or talked to each other.
Even Felix had been tied up and muzzled and was being practically dragged by our captors.
Any plans? I asked Theron.
Other than using our magic to break the rope and fighting them, no.
I glanced down at the ropes. I already tried magic. Even my fire barely warms the rope. It wonât break that easily.
Besides, breaking the rope and fighting, we didnât have any options, and we were sorely outnumbered by these vicious creatures.
They seemed to know who you are, Theron said. Which means, the alpha is after you.
What could he possibly want with me?
I donât know, but I guess youâll have to reason with him and beg for our lives.
Would that work? This alpha could be as evil as Damara or Darcy. I was terribly afraid we were heading toward another enemy.
Eventually, the werewolves guided us toward a small cave opening.
âThrough here,â said the man from before. He had remained in his human body the entire trip.
I glanced at the cave. Kane and Theron couldnât get through walking side by side. They really expected us to willingly walk in there? What if they pushed us all in and then closed the exit, sealing us in.
I hesitated, but the ropes tugged me forward. âMove!â the man shouted.
Some of us uttered protests, but I knew my voice would add nothing to the mix. I had to hope this wasnât a trap. That we were being escorted to the alpha, like they said, and that the alpha was a compassionate werewolf.
So far, I had little indication of that.
We were pulled inside the cave, and I felt like I would suffocate as we were guided through a long, narrow, rocky tunnel. Finally, after a couple of minutes, the tunnel widened and the opens for other tunnels appeared.
We were taken down into the earth, until the tunnel suddenly ended in a vast cavern. I swear it was bigger than a football stadium, but with rocks for a ceiling. More cave openings lined the perimeter and several people and werewolves peaked out as we were escorted deeper into the room, all of them probably curious about the prisoners.
There were kids among them. Certainly, they wouldnât kill us in front of kids, right? I mean, I was praying they werenât that barbaric.
The few werewolves who were in their human forms picked up leather or suede pants from a wooden chest near the entrance and put them on, finally covering some of their naked bodies, before tugging on the ropes again.
Our group was pulled across the vast space, to stand in front of a raised platform with a big wooden log, covered with a piece of ragged leather.
What was this?
The werewolves surrounded us, ready to move if we moved first.
